Game 2---Cubs 3 Cardinals 2

Product---Jumbo Hot Dogs
Temperature--- 40 degrees, sunny, with 12 mile per hour winds

Dear Jim Hendry,
Congratulations on your two-year contract extension. You have made some great moves during your term as Cubs General Manager. Todd Hundley for Eric Karros and Mark Grudzielanek was a key building block for the 2003 playoff team. Bobby Hill and Jose Hernandez for Kenny Lofton and Aramis Ramirez was the biggest heist in Chicago history since Al Capone. And Hee Sop Choi for Derek Lee may go down as one of the greatest deals in franchise history.
But that final deal will only go down in the history book if D-Lee makes his mark as a Cub. Right now, the highlight of his career is defeating the Cubs (and the Yankees) as a Marlin in the 2003 playoffs. Last year’s batting title is obviously a big deal, but winning a World Series trumps it. This year, Lee is already off to a great start. He has hit homers in three strait games, including today’s eighth inning game winner that cut through the wind and became the first home run to leave the park since the expansion of the bleachers. He is a Gold-Glove caliber fielder, a base running threat, and more than anything, a great person. You never hear anything bad about D-Lee, and he does everything with dignity and class.
So why is it taking so long to give him a contract extension? Whatever his agent wants, tell him yes and get Derek’s John Hancock on a piece of paper. He wants more than Paul Konerko got? Well, it’s because he is a better player. If the Cubs end up losing Derek Lee as a free agent in the winter of 2006, you won’t have a job anymore. So get it done.

Sincerely,
Eli Kaberon

Observations:
Today was a better day sales wise, but tips were slower. I did four full loads of jumbos, which at 20 bucks a load comes out to $80 in commission. I made 40 cents less than that in tips, not a bad day at all, but nothing compared to yesterday. I could have definitely sold another 50 dogs, but the people in the commissary were really slow wrapping them and I probably wasted a full inning just standing there…I wasn’t the biggest ballin Evanston alum in the stadium today, since Class of ’84 graduate John Cusack was there to sing the 7th inning stretch…There was less wind today and the sun was out, but it didn’t really matter. When I was in the shade, I was freezing…In the sun though, it was actually pretty warm. Warm enough for some to just have a t-shirt on, including one guy with the classic “Albert likes it in his Pujols” shirt…I finally picked up the April issue of the hilarious Wrigleyville mock-newspaper, “The Heckler”. The headline read was a classic:
Cubs buy White Sox--
North Siders capture elusive title by purchasing champs…Tomorrow’s a night game, so I won’t be updating until Monday. Bring the brooms to the park, because the Cubs are going to sweep.
