Well I forgot to post yesterday, so I will be doing two recaps in one post:
Game 16---Braves 2 Cubs 1
Product---Jumbo hot dogs
Temperature---82 degrees, sunny
Game 17---Braves 13 Cubs 12, 11 innings
Product---Jumbo hot dogs
Temperature---91 degrees, humid
Two days, two games, two one run losses. Yet Saturday and Sunday’s contests couldn’t have been more different.
On Saturday, the wind was blowing in, the pitchers were hitting their sports, and runs were tougher to get then a profanity-free quote from Ozzie Guillen. The Braves and Cubs combined for three runs, 17 hits and finished the game in a mere two hours and thirty-six minutes. Rookie starter Sean Marshall proved why he is still in the rotation and gave Cub fans hope that maybe he will turn it around after a horrid month of May.
25 hours later (Sat. game started at 12:20, Sun. at 1:20), the breeze had pulled a 180 and was blowing 13 miles an hour strait out. Neither pitcher, not the rookie making his Major League debut or the future Hall of Famer, could survive without allowing six runs. The teams pounded out 34 hits, including eight home runs (all by Atlanta), and committed five errors, compared to the zero of the day before. The game took three hours and forty-seven minutes to complete. Rookie starter Jae Kuk Ryu proved why the team needs to acquire another starting pitcher and gave Cub fans nightmares for thinking about all the players Jim Hendry turned down because he didn’t want to part with all the ‘young, talented arms in the farm system.’
Observations:
Both days this weekend I wanted to sell water but wasn’t able to, so I went with jumbos instead. Sunday was better then Saturday, but only by the slimmest of margins. I made $116.25 on Sat., $117.50 on Sun…I saw and sold a hot dog to Illinois means basketball coach Bruce Webber on Sunday, which was pretty cool. Though I’m a huge Bruce fan, I don’t think he passes Joe Montana as my most famous sale ever…I saw some other familiar faces at the park this weekend, including friends from high school and college, as well as my parents, who attended the game on Sunday…Though I like this format, I am going to be changing ‘The Hot Dog Guy’ a bit. Instead of posting after every game, which I have realized is much more difficult then I thought, I will be posting 3-5 times a week, regardless if the Cubs are at home or not. I will provide updates on how I am doing, and if there are any celebrity sightings, funny stories or just about anything worth sharing, it will be written about.
