Good Rex or Bad Rex?
That is the question this week here in Chicago. Correction, that is the question every week in the Windy City. Which Rex Grossman is going to show up under center for the Bears this Sunday? The number eight who was unstoppable at the beginning of the 2006 season, the one who threw deep balls with pinpoint accuracy and didn’t give away games with stupid passes. Or the QB who holds on to the ball too long, throws off his back foot when pressured and has a brain fart every time he’s blitzed up the middle.
I have no answer to the question. I don’t think Lovie Smith does either. Rex probably doesn’t know himself. There is absolutely no way to guess how Grossman is going to do on any given Sunday. And that’s what makes football such a great sport. Last week versus the Chiefs, Good Rex played the first half, throwing a touchdown pass and keeping the Bears comfortably ahead (With the help of Devin Hester). But then Bad Rex came in for the third and forth quarters, throwing two stupid picks and allowing Kansas City to stay in the game. And that leads us to this week’s Bears game. Against a good Dallas Cowboys pass rush (but a horrible secondary), Rex has got to play well and be smart. The ‘Boys offense has a lot of weapons, and Tony Romo has played at a Pro-Bowl level thus far. That means the Bears offense will have to score more than a touchdown this week. I think they can do it, and it will help that I believe that Dallas wont kick to Hester. This will give the Bears good field position, and hopefully Rex can translate that it into points.
