Leaping links

Because February has given us an extra day this year, I’m giving you an extra blog post. Here are a few links worth checking out (I promise, nothing about Roger Clemens)…

-ESPN columnist Gene Wojciechowski wrote a great book a few years ago titled “Cubs Nation: 162 Games, 162 Stories, 1 Addiction” in which the writer chronicled every day of the teams season by telling a different story. One day it was about how Dusty Baker filled out the lineup card, the next it was about a ballhawk on Waveland, and then there’d be one about the head groundskeeper. Very funny and interesting stuff (except for how it ends, it is after all the Cubs). Anyways, Wojciechowski still loves to follow the team, and earlier this week, he wrote a great piece about how Sam Zell- the new idiotic owner of the Cubs- wants to sell the naming rights to Wrigley Field. Well done Wojo.

-On that same story, the Tribune’s Rick Morrissey makes a great point that even if a company buys the rights to re-name the shrine on Clark & Addison, nobody will ever call it that.

-This is a few weeks late, but the Washington Post’s Micahel Wilbon, one of the very best columnists in the country (and I’m not saying that only because he’s a Chi-Town guy who is on TV) wrote a tremendous piece on how to fix the NBA All-Star game. His first idea is pretty good; his second one is out-of-this-world GREAT. Hopefully David Stern has seen this.

-Yes, I know, it is way way way too early to start even begin thinking about the debut of college football. But if you have, here is something you might be interested. Who would have ever thought the Tigers and Illini meeting up would be #2 on the list?

-And finally, what links column would be right without some YouTube love. First, there is Vince Carter not knowing that teammate Devin Harris was going to play for the Nets. Next, since I went to Wrigley Field training last night so that I can work again, I have to support my fellow vendors. with this classic. And finally, no YouTube collection of mine would be complete without an MJ video, so here’s highlights of a game they need to re-air on ESPN Classic if only for the reason that he looks so tight in those Air Jordan I’s.
